An exploration of human emotions across the Facebook platform.
Summary: I plan to make a data visualization or an info-graphic of human emotions across the popular Facebook platform.
Description: The idea of visualizing data to derive an aesthetic value or meaning fascinates me. Human emotions is a huge driving force which led to the popularity of numerous social networking websites, the most popular arguably being Facebook.
I plan to center my project around an exploration of visualizing different emotions based on a manually set list of parameters. I hope to make it interactive using a current dataset.
There is a lot of work going on in this field of study. My inspiration comes from all these projects put together:
Inspiration 1: www.wefeelfine.org | 2005

Built by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar.
Inspiration 2. Colors in culture (www.informationisbeautiful.net) | 2009

Built by David McCandless & AlwayswithHonour.com.
Inspiration 3. Visualizing emotions in lyrics (http://www.synesketch.krcadinac.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page)
Viz for Michael Jackson’s Thriller: http://people.cs.kuleuven.be/~joris.klerkx/thrillerMovie.mov/

Built by Joris Kerkx.
Core Takeaways: This visualization will aim give a clear understanding underlying the whole debate around people becoming exhibitionists, narcissists and voyeuristic in nature.
It will aim to answer questions like Does rainy weather affect how you feel? Do deadlines make you anxious or more focused? Has Facebook made you more aware of yourself and your friends? How do sharing emotions and thoughts play a role in forming your decisions?
